Leading US character actor Richard Riehle will play George Westinghouse in TESLA biopic

RichardRiehleTESLAOne of America’s most familiar screen faces, Richard Riehle will play American engineer and entrepreneur George Westinghouse in TESLA (@TeslaTheMovie), the widely anticipated biopic of the great Serb scientist and humanitarian Nikola Tesla.

Familiar character actor Riehle, a star of the Oscar® nominated films Glory, Casino, The Fugitive and Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, is a strong addition to the cast of TESLA, the most talked-about film in Balkan cinema. Directed by Pittsburgh’s Michael Anton, TESLA is the only film in advanced pre-production that will tell the life story of Nikola Tesla.

As a key rival to Edison, George Westinghouse should be a meaty role for Richard Riehle, who is well known for his colourful roles in more than 50 television series and almost twice as many films.

Oscar-nominated films make Riehle a perfect choice

Riehle, aged 65, is a prolific character actor, who has appeared in. Star Trek fans will remember Riehle from episodes of the Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise series.

“Richard Riehle is the perfect choice, in my opinion, for the pivotal role of George Westinghouse,’ said TESLA director Michael Anton. “I think most people who know of Richard’s work will instantly be able to picture him in the part. He has built a successful career as one of America’s greatest character actors, achieving what can evade many others: being a very recognisable face that audiences have no difficulty seeing in character. Richard will be the perfect Westinghouse and we are honoured to have him on board.”

Some of Riehle’s films include the Oscar nominated Glory, Casino, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Café, The Fugitive and Ghosts of Mississippi, plus Of Mice and Men, Free Willy, Executive Decision, Black Rain, Mighty Joe Young and Office Space. Most recently, he appeared the phenomenally successful Bridesmaids, the highest grossing female comedy of all time.

Star Trek, The West Wing and Quantum Leap star Richard Riehle

It is for his hit TV work that Riehle is best known, including roles in three Star Trek series and a regular role in the sitcom Grounded For Life. Other TV credits include the award winning international hit shows Quantum Leap, Roseanne, Murder, She Wrote, L.A. Law, Ally McBeal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Chicago Hope, Diagnosis: Murder, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The West Wing, ER, Boston Legal and The Young and the Restless.

Produced by Silvermask Films, TESLA is a truthful biopic to shoot in Pittsburgh, USA, and Belgrade, Serbia, in coming months. The landmark film will feature many of Tesla’s key discoveries and show how the controversial US businessman Thomas Edison usurped Tesla’s celebrated work. It is well documented that both Edison and Marconi took credit for the Serb’s ground-breaking work.

TESLA New PosterIn TESLA, Riehle will star alongside Branko Tomović (Fury) in the title role, as well as some of Serbia’s most acclaimed actors, such as Mirjana Karanović (Esma’s Secret), Hristina Popović (Circles, The Parade) and Marija Karan.(The Rite) Producers will announce further key cast as soon as their attachments has been confirmed.

A primary intention of director Michael Anton is to broaden awareness and appreciation of Nikola Tesla’s work outside of his Balkan homelands, where he is recognised as a genuine hero deserving of global respect.

Part of that aim will be fulfilled when director Michael Anton is a featured guest at the major ComiCon event in Monroeville Convention Center, Monroeville, PA 15146, on September 27-29.

Reappraising Tesla: Michael Anton is the man for the job

“It is clear that the life and works of Nikola Tesla deserve to be reappraised,’ said Michael Anton. “For too long now, his good name has been overshadowed by the more powerful men of his time. But the true heroic story does not lie with those people, it is to Nikola Tesla that our school children should be looking. That should be the true legacy of Nikola Tesla.”
