Celebrated Serbian actress Mirjana Karanović (Grbavica/Esma’s Secret) has joined the cast of TESLA (@TeslaTheMovie), the Nikola Tesla biopic that is scheduled to shoot in Serbia and the United States, in the autumn. She will play Djuka, the hardworking Serbian mother who had a big influence on the inventive instincts of the young Nikola.
“It is quite a small role in the film, but Djuka played a very significant role in the life of Nikola Tesla,’ said Mirjana. “She helped to define who he was. It really is an honour for me to play this hardworking woman who brought up such a strong and interesting family.”
US Director Changes Film Title to Honour Nikola Tesla’s Birthday
The overwhelming reception for his forthcoming biopic about Nikola Tesla has led American director Michael Anton to deliver a new name to sum up the iconic nature of the man and his unique legacy.
“Nikola Tesla does not need a controversial label,’ said Michael Anton. “The fact that his name is not as familiar as it should be is one of the issues we intend to address with this film, which has progressed from a strong script with a modest budget into a potential voice that will finally break the great silence that is the history of Nikola Tesla.
“From now on, this film will be simply titled TESLA. Nothing more, nothing less.”
The new title (@TeslaTheMovie), announced on the anniversary of Tesla’s birth, reflects the iconic nature of the man and his legacy.
American Director Brings Nikola Tesla Movie Shoot to Serbia
American director Michael Anton will bring Nikola Tesla to Serbia with The Mad Scientist, a big screen movie that will shed light on the Serb scientist’s life in the US and tell the truth about his relationship with Thomas Edison.
Tesla is considered one of the world’s greatest scientists, responsible for some of the most significant inventions and discoveries, but his influence has gone largely unrecognised outside of his Balkan homeland.
Speaking days before the anniversary of Tesla’s birth on 10 July, 1856, the film’s director Michael Anton was keen to share his intention to increase international awareness for Tesla and his legacy.
“Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein are household names not only in the US, but across the globe,’ he said.
The EU is Incomplete Without the Balkan States, says Croatian President
The European Union will not be complete until it can admit the Balkan states, Croatian President Ivo Josipović said while in London for talks with the British Government ahead of his country’s EU accession on 1 July.
“Definitely Europe will not be complete without other south east European countries,’ he said during a visit to London, ahead of Croatia’s accession to the EU on 1 July. “We are going to bring interesting cultural heritage and some natural beauty. We are going to bring a society of goodwill. I think that is very important.
“Croatia will help because we are connected with those countries, historically, culturally, politically. We are not burdened by an enormous weight of crime, we have a very open society who accepts foreigners, especially during the touristic season, and finally but not least, we are some kind of road to the south east. So I think Europe will benefit from our accession.”
