Celebrated Serbian actress Mirjana Karanović (Grbavica/Esma’s Secret) has joined the cast of TESLA (@TeslaTheMovie), the Nikola Tesla biopic that is scheduled to shoot in Serbia and the United States, in the autumn. She will play Djuka, the hardworking Serbian mother who had a big influence on the inventive instincts of the young Nikola.

“It is quite a small role in the film, but Djuka played a very significant role in the life of Nikola Tesla,’ said Mirjana. “She helped to define who he was. It really is an honour for me to play this hardworking woman who brought up such a strong and interesting family.”

US Director Changes Film Title to Honour Nikola Tesla’s Birthday

“Nikola Tesla does not need a controversial label,’ said Michael Anton. “The fact that his name is not as familiar as it should be is one of the issues we intend to address with this film, which has progressed from a strong script with a modest budget into a potential voice that will finally break the great silence that is the history of Nikola Tesla.

“From now on, this film will be simply titled TESLA. Nothing more, nothing less.”

The new title (@TeslaTheMovie), announced on the anniversary of Tesla’s birth, reflects the iconic nature of the man and his legacy.

American Director Brings Nikola Tesla Movie Shoot to Serbia

The Mad Scientist PosterAmerican director Michael Anton will bring Nikola Tesla to Serbia with The Mad Scientist, a big screen movie that will shed light on the Serb scientist’s life in the US and tell the truth about his relationship with Thomas Edison.

Tesla is considered one of the world’s greatest scientists, responsible for some of the most significant inventions and discoveries, but his influence has gone largely unrecognised outside of his Balkan homeland.

Speaking days before the anniversary of Tesla’s birth on 10 July, 1856, the film’s director Michael Anton was keen to share his intention to increase international awareness for Tesla and his legacy.

“Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein are household names not only in the US, but across the globe,’ he said.

Americans Battle It Out With Balkan Brass Heroes in Guča

Brasslands Film Poster Guca SerbiaA band of perky Americans with a love for everything Balkan took on the might of brass giants when they made a pilgrimage to the tiny south Serbian town of Guča to compete in the annual music festival. Thankfully, they took a US film crew along to record this meeting of minds over a shared love of trumpets and drums. The resulting documentary, Brasslands, follows Zlatne Uste, America’s foremost Balkan brass band, as they prepare to compete in the 50th anniversary of the world’s largest trumpet competition.

Brasslands follows this 12-piece band of enthusiastic American-born musicians from New York, as they travel to Serbia to be the first Americans to compete at the renowned Guča festival. For one week of every year, this otherwise insignificant Serbian town explodes with the riotous sounds of half a million brass music fans as bands compete in the world’s biggest trumpet contest.
