Nominees Announced For Regional MTV Movie Awards

Film fans in Serbia and the Balkan states are being encouraged to vote in the first regional Gorki List MTV Movie Awards, when local talent will be acknowledged for the first time in the event.

MTV announced plans for the awards at recent press events in Belgrade, Zagreb and Ljubljana to list the 15 regional nominees for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress. To see nominees and vote on your personal favourites, visit MTV Serbia (voting closes 3 June).
Serbian entries for the best regional film category are Tilva Roš, a coming of age drama about a group of skaters from Bor, a small mining town in eastern Serbia, and Montevideo, God Bless You, about a team’s dream journey to compete in the first World Cup Final in Uruguay in 1930.
Other nominees for best regional film are Macedonia’s Majki (Mothers), Slovenia’s Gremo mi po Svoje (Going Our Way) and Croatia’s Šuma Summarum (Fierce Creatures).

>Nikola Rakočević

Nikola Rakočević, star of the controversial film about extreme Serbian nationalism, Skinning (Srb: Šišanje) is among the best regional actor nominees. Previously reviewed by W!LD RooSTeR, Nikola’s commanding performance in Skinning makes the film repeatedly watchable and deserves recognition.

Other nominees are Croatia’s Leon Lucev (The Road) and Slovenian funnyman Yuri Zrnec, while Serbian hit Montevideo, God Bless You received two best actor nominations for young stars Milos Bikovic and Petar Strugar.

Iva Kranjc

In the best regional actress category, Slovenian actress Iva Kranjc stands out for her beautifully nuanced role in Besa, again positively reviewed previously by W!LD RooSTeR.

Other nominees are established Serbian star Branka Katic (Woman with a Broken Nose), young Serbian actress Nina Jankovic (Montevideo, God Bless You), plus Croatia’s Lucija Serbedzija (72 Days) and Mary Skaricic (Asphalt Mother).>
